Bli
Bli is situated approximately 10 kms east of Nambour and
10 kms north of Maroochydore. Originally a sugar cane area,
Bli Bli is now a growing residential area. The
community is characterized by a mix of professional and
trades people, farmers and workers in the coast service
industries. The vast majority of students and parents are
of an English speaking background.
We
currently have approximately 617 students attending the school
from Prep to Year 7. There are 21 primary classroom
teaching groups and 4 Prep Classes, as well as specialist
teachers in Music, Physical Education, Library, LOTE (Italian)
and a Learning Support Centre with an STLD on site. A Guidance
Officer visits weekly.
An
active Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community works
closely with the school and a school Chaplain has been appointed
to work with children.
The
large variety of students' abilities is catered for in the
schools curricula. The school operates under a combination
of single year level classes and cooperative (open area)
arrangements to cater for student's individual learning
needs and effective pedagogy.
The
school has an outstanding record in cultural and sporting
pursuits as well as established instrumental music groups
and choirs. In addition to weekly PE lessons, all children
in Years 2 to 7 are actively involved in weekly sports/games
sessions ranging from modified games to interschool sports. For a number of years now Bli
Bli SS has been one of the top ranked schools in the Sunshine
Coast region for supplying regional sport representatives.
Students are also given the opportunity to participate in
lunch hour dance and chess club activities, which are organised
by the teachers.
The
school strives to continually meet the current needs of
the community and to develop productive partnerships with
community organizations. Regular and well-attended Parents
and Citizens meetings are held and the school operates an
active Student Council.
Our
school has developed partnerships with local council groups,
community groups and environmental agencies.
