SCHOOL HOURS

ABSENCES
If
your child is unable to attend school, the school office or the
class teacher must be advised by the parent/caregiver. This can
be done by:
·
A
phone call to the Absentee Line ( Ph: 5458 2120)
·
A
note to the class teacher
If
your child is going to be late (ie anytime after 8.50am), once
again the school must be notified in one of the above ways.
Children
should be at school by 8.45am at the latest to allow for an
orderly, prepared start to the school day.
Students who arrive late at school, ie. after 8.50am
starting time, must have a note for the class teacher explaining
lateness OR a parent/ caregiver may visit or contact the office
to provide relevant information.
If in
a three week period a child has had three or more unexplained
absences the school will request an explanation for
these absences.
ACADEMIC, SERVICE, SPORTING
& CULTURAL AWARDS
Students will be able
to gain recognition for achievement in four areas:
·
Academic – representing the
school in academic competitions, receiving a Distinction or a
High Distinction in academic competitions
·
Service – helping, leading or
teaching others
·
Sport – representing the
school at District, Regional, State or National level
·
Cultural – representing the
school in a significant pursuit
The idea of giving an
award is to recognise the great contribution students make at
this school, by helping others and by striving to make Bli Bli
an even better school. Students
are encouraged to be active and supportive citizens.
Many students use
their own time and freely give of themselves so others can
benefit. This service to others and the school is the key to this
program. We want to
reward students for being outstanding citizens of our school.
For their efforts
students are presented with badges to be worn proudly on the
sleeves of their uniform.
Silver and Gold
certificates are presented on parade for those students who gain
four and eight badges respectively.
ADMINISTRATION OF MEDICATION
Guidelines
for the administration of medication, approved by the
Director-General of Education, must be strictly observed.
School staff can assist a student with medication under
the carer provisions of the Health (Drugs and Poisons)
Regulation (1996) provided that a written request is received
from the student’s parent or legal guardian. (Please note:
Oral medication, including all analgesics, may only be
administered on a doctor’s advice).
Expectation of Parents
It is reasonable to
expect parents/caregivers to undertake the following in relation
to the administration of medication and/or management of health
conditions.
·
Request
the school in writing to administer prescribed medication or to
assist in the management of a health condition.
·
Notify
the school in writing of any requests and/or guidelines from
medical practitioners including potential side effects or
adverse reactions.
·
Provide
the medication in the original labelled container to the
nominated staff member.
·
Ensure
the medication is not out of date and has an original pharmacy
label with the student’s name, dosage and time to be taken.
·
Advise
the school in writing and collect the medication when it is no
longer required at school.
All
medication will be kept under strict supervision at the office.
UNLESS
THESE GUIDELINES ARE FOLLOWED, MEDICATION CANNOT BE ADMINISTERED
TO A STUDENT.
PUFFERS:
Any asthmatic child, who is
responsible for taking his/her own medication at home, may now
be responsible for inhalers at school at all times.
This is provided that written permission from a parent or
legal guardian is presented to the school initially.
If you wish your child to be
responsible for his/her own inhaler, please forward a letter to
your child’s teacher, otherwise puffers are kept in the safety
of the sick room and readily accessible to children in an
emergency. The
principal of the school must give approval for this to happen.
Parents should ensure puffers are clearly labelled with their
child’s name.
APPOINTMENTS
If
you wish to speak to a teacher or a member of the administration
team, appointments are necessary.
This will allow relevant data to be gathered and ensure
maximum benefit from the appointment.
Please phone the school on 54582111 or contact the
teacher directly to arrange a suitable time.
ASSEMBLIES
A
whole school assembly is conducted every second Monday morning
in the school hall. Messages
of importance, school rules etc. are conveyed to the children
and student performances are encouraged.
The
pursuit of excellence is valued at our school and children’s
achievements are regularly celebrated on these assemblies.
Sometimes
special guests are invited to talk with the children.
Parents
are always welcome to come to the assembly. On alternate weeks,
assemblies may be held at different times for lower, middle and
upper classes. These
assemblies are a little more personal and are more year level
orientated than the full school assembly.
BANKING - SCHOOL
Parents are needed to
support the Bank Coordinator with processing of deposits on
Monday mornings from 9.00am.
Children
from Years One to Seven have the opportunity of banking by
depositing money with the Commonwealth Savings Bank at the
school. We now have
electronic banking facilities which are operated by members of
the P&C.
An
account may be opened at any time by contacting the office and
completing an application form to be sent to the bank. Deposits
of ten cents or more may be banked.
Parents should check to see that money forwarded has been
correctly credited. Withdrawals
which require a parent’s signature are not handled at school
but at a Bank or Agency.
BEHAVIOUR MANAGEMENT
Our
school is proud of its reputation as a place where students are
supported and traditional values are taught.
Our objective is “To foster a positive environment
where the rights of all are observed”.
To
achieve this, a behaviour management policy is enforced. The policy highlights our values and beliefs and provides
more details of our school rules.
The policy also shows details of the level system which
is employed.
To
support this policy we employ a Social Skills programme that
provides all students with the appropriate skills and training
to manage their own behaviour in a variety of situations.
We
believe these combined programmes enable students to interact
with one another in a supportive and non-threatening
environment.

CENTENARY POEM
Now 100 years came and went
The good old cane now is no
more
since
the Bli Bli kids first were sent, when
many kids were made so sore,
For
them to try that brand new school
The young ones now are missing out
along
with the teacher they tried to fool.On something that made the
oldies shout.
Slates
those days, were on the desk The
old school house has stood so well
but
are
now replaced by a paper mess, through reading, maths and show
and tell,
The
old ink wells, were filled in haste
It’s roofs and walls can tell some tales
and
pens and nibs have been replaced. of
rain and hail and blowing gales.
"To
school on horseback” days are gone
The school has stood here quite a while
and
now it’s rush to beat the throng,
but now there’s changes by the mile,
Of
Mums and Dads to bring the kids
Once was bush and scrub astride,
by
motor cars instead of gigs.
but now there’s houses on all sides.
The
aged school bell that made kids scoot
Now though 100 years have past
is
now replaced by a noisy hoot,
and it seemed to go so very fast,
The
old 3r’s gone by the way,
Even with modern changes to the golden rule,
instead,
computers and hi-tech ways.
it still remains “The Old Bli Bli School”.
Written
by Lillian McMartin for the centenary of the Bli Bli School
2001.
CHAPLAIN
The
Education Department recognizes Chaplaincy as a desirable
addition to a school. Within the school the Chaplain operates
closely under the general direction of the Chaplaincy committee
and the Principal.
The
Chaplain works with, and compliments, existing school support
services such as the guidance officer. Also, the chaplain holds
a unique position in our wider school community through
extending confidential counselling, care and support for not
only students, but staff and parents. Personal difficulties may
affect a student’s academic performance and the Chaplain can
provide them with a positive and encouraging support
alternative.
A
Chaplain’s work may include assisting n classrooms, casual
meetings, personal conversations with students, general school
activities, sporting and other events in and out of the school.
