Information
Sessions
Within
the first month of school each year, teachers hold information
sessions for parents of children from that class. Teachers provide
parents with information about classroom expectations and consequences,
homework and the normal routines. Parents are encouraged to attend
these meetings to meet the child's teacher and to clarify any
general concerns. Specific information about children would be
discussed at an individual parent/teacher meeting and not at the
information session.
Reporting
to Parents
It
is vital that both parents and teachers are kept informed of each
child's progress. Communication between home and school allows
everyone to have a complete understanding of the child. This is
essential to give the child the greatest advantage while attending
this school.
Our school encourages informal communication at any time. Formal
reporting is held three times each year. Prior to the Easter vacation,
all parents are invited to attend an interview with the teacher
to talk specifically about the progress of their child. Prior
to the winter and summer vacations, written reports are provided
as well as an invitation to speak with the teacher.
Parents are encouraged to take advantage of these times to find
out what is happening at school and provide information to teachers
about their child in areas that may impact on their school life.
Parents
in Education
Bli
Bli State School employs a number of strategies to allow parents
to become involved in their child’s education.
It is through these strategies that communication becomes
effective.
- Reporting
to parents: eg. face-to-face, report card, phone calls, notes
- General
Information sharing: parent information sessions with class
teacher, workshops throughout the year (eg Helping your Year 1
child with reading’)
- Specific
information sharing: eg Helping your child identified by the
Year 2 Diagnostic Net.
- Training:
eg Support-a-reader
- Interviews:
Appraisement, EAPs, Specialist staff (eg Guidance officer)
- Encouraging
parents to become in classroom activities, such as Art
sessions, volunteering in the library.
- Encouraging
parents to assist with sport and excursions
- Encouraging
parents to assist with general school activities, eg tuckshop,
banking
- Encourage
parents to become involved in P&C and as parent
